2005 Cowboys Season Schedule
In his first year after taking over the reigns of the Dallas Cowboys, new head coach Bill Parcells led the team to a 10-6 record and a playoff berth. But in 2004, the team experienced a reversal of fortune, and Dallas fell to 6-10 in what could only be described as a disappointing campaign. But as the team enters the 2005 season, they have plenty to build on. Running back Julius Jones started just eight games but still managed more than 800 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, and wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson was just 18 yards shy of a 1,000 yard season. Now, with veteran signal caller Drew Bledsoe taking the snaps from center, hopes are high. The 2005 Cowboys season schedule shows the club open on the road against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, September 11, before returning to Texas Stadium the following week for their home opener against the NFC East rival Washington Redskins.
Breaking down the 2005 Cowboys Season Schedule
If history is any indicator, than the 2005 Cowboys season schedule is tailor-made for the team to have a successful season. Dallas has won five of their seven meetings with the Chargers, and have not lost to the Redskins during the Parcells era, so a 2-0 start is a real possibility. Then comes a pair of games against two Bay-area teams against whom the Cowboys tend to struggle, the 49ers and the Raiders. Both teams have all-time winning records against Dallas, but the Cowboys should be able to overcome a San Francisco club that has been struggling. The Raiders and their new off-season acquisition, Randy Moss? That's another story. Other non-conference foes on the 2005 schedule are Carolina, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, San Diego, Seattle and St. Louis. Dallas is a combined 47-36 lifetime against those seven opponents. Clearly, these numbers aren't necessarily indicative of how the teams will perform during the upcoming season, but it does seem safe to predict that the Cowboys will improve their win-loss record in 2005.
