Dallas Cowboy Football

They have been called cocky, arrogant, classless and snobbish, among other things. But the one word that best describes Dallas Cowboy football? Triumphant. The Cowboys have enjoyed a great deal of team and individual success throughout their storied history. Founded in 1960 by Clint Murchison, Jr. and Bedford Wynne, the Cowboys franchise went winless during their first season. Success has since become the norm in Dallas, however, as the team has gone on to win more than 400 total NFL games and five Super Bowl championship titles. Their team uniform colors are white with royal blue lettering for home games and dark blue jerseys with white names and numbers for road games. Their helmet logo -- a blue star emblazoned against a dark silver background -- is embraced by fans and known worldwide as one of the league's most recognizable and enduring trademarks. In fact, the Dallas Cowboys are known nationwide as America's Team, a moniker borrowed from their 1979 NFL Films team highlight movie.

Legends of Dallas Cowboy Football

Many of the greatest players and coaches in NFL history have been a part of the Dallas Cowboy Football family. The team has had 13 former members inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Among them are Tony Dorsett, who rushed for 12,739 yards and 77 touchdowns during his career and in 1983 set an NFL record with a 99-yard touchdown run; Tom Landry, who coached the Cowboys during of the team's first 29 seasons and won more career playoff games than any other coach in NFL history; Roger Staubach, the quarterback who led Dallas to their first two Super Bowl victorys and the highest-rated passer of all-time upon his retirement; and Bob Lilly, the first draft pick in Cowboy's history, an 11-time Pro Bowler and the first man ever inducted into the Dallas Cowboy's Ring of Honor. With legendary players such as these men, as well as Randy White, Mel Renfro, Don Meredith and, more recently, Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin, there is little doubt as to why the Cowboys have enjoyed the kind of success they have throughout their long, illustrious history.
